Duration 6 hours
This is a privately guided tour exploring the Island of Santorini starting from the Akrotiri Excavations, a prehistoric Bronze Age city, frozen in time by ash that fell during the Minoan volcanic eruption 3.600 years ago. Some speculate that this is the origin of Atlantis, a mythical city.
Admire the elaborate drainage system, the sophisticated multi-storied buildings, and their magnificent wall paintings and excavated furniture and vessels that show the former settlements great prosperity.
Then we will head to admire the Red beach. The red layer of sand at the Red Beach created a spectacular sight! Take the spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and the nearby islands. Enjoy an optional lunch of fish or seaside restaurant.
Then, make your way to the peak Prophets Ilias, Santorini’s highest mountain that stands some 2000 feet ( 600 meters) above the sea. Be amazed by the island vistas surrounding you, and then follow your guide inside the ornate Greek Christian monastery perched at the mountain’s summit. Walk around the chapel, listen to the monks chanting and savor samples of the dessert wine, honey and extra virgin olive that are made on-site.
Continue through the beautiful Santorini countryside to the village of Oia. Built on the northern part of the caldera rim, Oia is the most photographed place in Santorini and place where many artists have found their inspiration. It’s beauty, the traditional architecture, and the amazing sunset.
Enjoy the stunning views of the caldera, where many dwellings are built into niches of the volcanic rock. You’ll also have a panoramic view of the rest of Santorini and the Aegean Sea.
